Racial and Ethnic Democracy in Brazil.
Brazilian society was formed on a hybrid basis. A person’s skin color could not prevent their identity and integration between the dominators and the dominated. The class difference in Brazilian society is as a result of the social distance between the black and the white people.
There is racism in Brazil although white people do not oppress the black population since the color is not expressed as a social division. The myth of racial democracy assumes that the ethnic groups in Brazil co-exist peacefully and every individual has equal chances to succeed, unlike other countries like the United States and South Africa.
The promotion of social recognition of the citizens was due to the emergence of affirmative action whose intentions were to reduce social inequality by the formation of practice and policies. Brazil is the second-largest country with the largest population of blacks after Nigeria.
The blacks are not well represented in all sectors of national life. Blacks occupy a few top positions
and are sometimes considered invisible. Ethnic democracy existed as a result of the mixed breeding between the white masters and black slaves. The dark-skinned people were considered to be poorer than whites.
