Part I: Chapter 5, Attitudes
Assume that you have obtained an industrial, organizational fieldwork placement. Your university professor and placement supervisor would like you to prepare five descriptions of five workshops planned by the marketing, advertising unit of the business in which you are doing your field placement – about 100 words each.
Your university professor and placement supervisor intend to make these workshops academic and scholarly and have approved that you use the Branscombe and Baron text as your main source of information.
So, quote and use Branscombe and Baron, indicating pages on which information occurs. Information will describe what will be discussed at the workshop in more detail but should include enough information to stimulate interest before and during the workshop.
The following are the five workshop topics based on the Learning Objectives on page 126 in the text:
1) The learning processes involved in attitude formation;
2) How attitudes and behaviors are related and two processes that guide how attitudes are related to behaviors (combination of learning objectives 5.2 and 5.3);
3) Key factors that determine the effectiveness of persuasion;
4) How individuals resist persuasion;
5) Cognitive dissonance and attitude change.
Since these workshops are for a marketing, advertising unit, you can mention ideas and concepts related to marketing and advertising, but your university professor and placement supervisor wants a refresher on these five topics in general. So, for each of the workshops, summarize what the text has to say about that topic.
Use quotes to identify constructs, summarize research findings, and identify researchers and theorists as appropriate with page numbers pointing to the information. Each of the five sections should be about 100 words long with Part I of this exam being about 500 words long. End each of the five workshop descriptions with an evaluative statement of what information you found most useful and meaningful.
Part II Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination
Having successfully completed your first fieldwork placement, you now find yourself placed in a Human Resources unit in a community business. Your university professor and field placement supervisor would like you to develop a continuing series of writings on stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination for the monthly newsletter this business sends to all employees.
This series should be academic, scholarly, illustrating how psychologists make important conclusions about stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. They agree that Branscombe and Baron’s learning objectives on page 185 would be good topics for each of the five newsletter articles. Summarize and analyze what the text has to say about each of the five topics.
Use quotes to identify constructs, summarize research findings, and identify researchers and theorists as appropriate with pages locating the information. Each of the five sections should be about 100 words long with Part II of this exam being about 500 words long. End each of the five newsletters with an evaluative statement of what information you found most useful and meaningful.
