Serena and Jeremy are both in their early forties. They got married four years ago after living together for ten years. Jeremy is a very successful businessman, earning approximately £350,000 annually. Jeremy’s business was so prosperous that nine years ago the couple agreed that Serena would give up her well-paid job as a doctor at a London hospital in order to look after the family. Their daughter Mindy is now eight. The family has always enjoyed a very high standard of living, and their current savings are in the region of £800,000.
A year ago, Jeremy started a relationship with another woman, and she is now expecting Jeremy’s child. Jeremy wishes to divorce as soon as possible so that he can remarry. At the moment Serena remains, together with Mindy, in the large matrimonial home worth £5 million, inherited by Jeremy from his parents before he met Serena. Jeremy, who moved out three weeks ago, has told Serena that he would like to move back into his house.
Advise Serena how the issues concerning the divorce and the reallocation of the family’s assets may be legally resolved.
