Note When the directions say the paper should be between 200-300 words, this means 200-300 of your own original words. The quotes you use in this essay will not count towards the word limit. Try to use quotes that are no longer than 20 words.

Begin with an attention-getting statement or hook sentence. Include the title and author of the novel you have chosen. Briefly state what historical, cultural, and/or social context you have found that will affect the reader’s understanding of the literature. The first paragraph should end with your thesis statement which specifically states what you will be explaining in the body of the essay.
