a bibliography).
Deadline:
Topic:
Pick one of the religions that we have studied in this course:
⧫ Judaism
⧫ Christianity
⧫ Islam
⧫ Buddhism
Briefly and clearly explain one main ethical teaching of the tradition that you have chosen. How
does the ethics of your chosen religion approach the issue of abortion? Defend or oppose the
view that religious ethics, like the ethics found in the tradition that you have chosen, is the best
ethical approach to medical ethical issues, like abortion. Support your points with material from
the course and academic sources.
Research:
Once you have reviewed the topic, incorporate course content and conduct external research.
Start by examining course content. For your essay, you must bring in specific material from
various aspects of the course to support your points and make relevant connections between
course content, like readings, lectures, videos, etc. Make sure to include at least one source
from course content to support your points. The more connections that you can make, the
better.
In addition to this, conduct external research on your topic. Include four relevant, academic
sources on your topic for the essay and make sure to use them to support your points and make
sure to engage with them in your essay. You must support your arguments with academic
sources from both inside and outside the course.
Citations and Bibliography:
Be explicit about where you have included your sources by using in-text citations,
frequently, throughout your essay. Citations are essential for academic writing for several
reasons, like allowing the author to evaluate your evidence and avoiding plagiarism. If you do
NOT include in-text citations, you will receive a low grade. In addition to in-text citations,
students must also include a bibliography. Students are expected to follow the Chicago Manual
Style formatting (use the footnote method) for their in-text citations and bibliography.

Expectations:
A good essay will show me that you:
1) Have a comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter.
2) Can engage with four academic sources throughout your essay and use them to support
your arguments.
a. You will lose points if you do not use proper academic sources. Please familiarize
yourself with what counts as an academic source.
3) Can make at least one connection with various course content (can bring into your essay
material from different parts of the course, like from readings, videos, lectures, etc.) in
order to further support your arguments.
a. The more connections, the better.
4) Can explicitly show where you have included specific information from the course and
from your additional research with well formatted in-text citations and a bibliography,
according to the Chicago Manual Style.
5) Can organize and critically analyze ideas (present logical arguments), as well as can
communicate clearly (spelling and grammar, etc.).
6) Your grade is determined by how effectively you defend the position you take on the
