MADBESS AND METAPHOR: CULTURE ON THE EDGE
You must back up your arguments with theory and properly reference any material used: your bibliography should contain a minimum of five secondary texts (apart from websites). If you choose to write about a filmed adaptation, you must also refer back to the original text of the play.
Essay: 3,000 words
The essay should be no fewer than 2,700 words and no more than 3,300 words, including footnotes/endnotes but excluding the bibliography.
Essay should be typed, with margins of at least 2.5 cm., using double-line spacing and font size 12.
Essays must be read through and spell-checked before submission. Marks will be lost for spelling and grammatical errors.
All quotations must be carefully checked for accuracy and carefully referenced. Brief quoted material (under forty words) must in quotation marks; longer quotations should be indented and single-spaced. Marks will be forfeited for poor referencing.
N.B. You must include a standard bibliography with your essay, even though you will be attaching your annotated bibliography (and presentation notes).
Copies of any visual material discussed must be presented with the essay. If complete copies of videos, DVDs, or illustrated books are presented, the page or edit numbers must be clearly marked. If colour is relevant to the discussion, then colour copies must be provided; otherwise black and white photocopies will do. Images should be neatly labelled and given a number (fig 1, fig 11 etc.), for referencing within the essay. Attach pictures to the essay either as an appendix, or interspersed with the text. You should also include a separate List of Illustrations.
