Describe one internal and one external method for the dissemination of your EBP project results. For example, an internal method may be the hospital board, and an external method may be a professional nursing organization. Discuss why it is important to report your results to both of these groups. How will your communication strategies change for each group?
Dissemination of evidence-based practice outcomes include the targeted circulation of information and strategies to a specific public health or clinical practice audience. The key goal of dissemination is to enhance and facilitate the dissemination of information on evidenced based therapies, with a view to improving its enhanced implementation and patient outcomes.
The internal method I would use to disseminate the evidence-based practice would first be to present the idea to the Home care leadership. The director of the Home care office and the two clinical managers in the office. Externally evidence would be presented to the leadership at the hospital. Since this home care agency is directly connected to the hospital, they would also have to be on board and acceptive of the projected change as well before it could be implemented.
By submitting findings to the groups, this will allow time for constructive criticism and feedback of the project, thereby offering a chance to strengthen them before they are implemented. The communication strategy will remain the same for both groups. As it is important to report to them the reason for the needed change and how it will help the facility overall. Once they hear that information, and the fact that teach back method will not really cost the facility anything to implement, they should be on board with the change process.
Dissemination of evidence based practice results involves targeted distribution of information and interventions to a particular health audience. The main objective for the dissemination of my EBP project is to increase the utilization of hospice services. To promote the spread of the benefits hospice has to offer, both internal and external methods of dissemination should be applied.
The internal method that I would use to disseminate the evidence-based practice results is through the organization’s leadership team. The organization’s leadership team is composed of the director of nursing, medical director, executive director, CEO and other professionals. Dissemination of the proposal would be most appropriate through face-to-face interaction, board meeting. This approach facilitates interaction and instant feedback especially during questioning sessions.
The external method that I would use to disseminate the proposal would be through healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, physician’s office, and nursing homes. Application would be done through presentation in conferences of professional organizations. The professional organization would provide an ideal platform to facilitate dissemination of the project to large audience of health professionals.
Presentation of my evidence-based results to the two groups is important to facilitate sharing of the knowledge and information hospice has to offer. This would enhance decision-making capability among patients an their families. It will also help make the conversation of end-of-life care more normal and improving patient care through death. Most importantly, reporting the findings to the groups would facilitate constructive criticism of the results, thereby providing an opportunity to improve them before implementation.
In order to evaluate an evidence-based practice project, it is important to be able to determine the effectiveness of your change. Discuss one way you will be able to evaluate whether your project made a difference in practice.
My EBP project is on nurse burnout. In order to evaluate if the changes I am suggesting made a difference I would need to survey a group of nurses who report nurse burnout. After the changes suggested such as online scheduling, 12 hour shifts and unit reevaluation of staffing ratios, the same group of nurses would need to be surveyed. The difference in how the nurses answer the same question would show how the changes affected the feelings of the nurses towards their job. I think this would be possible to perform on all different types of units.
The events that led to my current perspective and direction was the fact of being employed currently at a home health agency and directly seeing the need for a better way to provide patient education.
“Health professionals are expected to use current best evidence in their clinical practice. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach that integrates three components in clinical decision-making: current best evidence, clinical expertise, and patient perspective. Evidence-based practice requires a different skill set of the clinical practitioner, namely, the ability to identify, access, appraise, and integrate research or scientific evidence into clinical decisions. Development and assessment of EBP knowledge and skills in health professions education, therefore, is necessary to ascertain foundation knowledge in evidence-based approaches to health care. Mastery of EBP can be developed over time and can serve as a strategy to meet health professionals’ life-long learning needs” (Gardner, Lahoz, & Bond, 2016). My evidence base practice aimed at importance of nursing staffing and how to try and help the issue of not enough nursing staff. The issue of hospitals and clinics not having enough staff is patient care is not being performed at the quality level it should be. “One method that would facilitate in determination of the effectiveness of the evidence-based practice is summative evaluation. It is essentially a systematic mechanism that enables collection and analysis of data on the effects/impacts of an intervention, output, and outcomes during implementation This method would therefore help in measuring and determining the success, efficacy and cost implications of my evidenced based projects in the healthcare organization”(Watson, Stimpson, Topping & Podorock, 2002).
