Topic: Researching the Internet Effectively

ENGL 1302 Teaching Assignment Instructions:
This assignment has an optional group allowance. For this class, a group is defined as two or more people
working together to complete an assignment. All members of the group receive the same grade, regardless of
who completes what.
Extra Credit: I will allot 5 extra credit points to any student who works in a group.
File Name: The file name must be Last, First Name Teaching Assignment. Failure to save the file name
correctly will result in a 5 point penalty. If working in a group, each student needs to submit their own copy.
Format: Follow all rules under the tab How to Format Paper. Failure to format correctly will result in a 5 point
penalty. If working in a group, please add all students’ names to the heading.
Page Length: The page length will be topic dependent. However, there should be three parts submitted. The
three parts may all be in one Word document, clearly labeled or be a combination of a Power Point and Word
documents.
Purpose: Demonstrate mastery of at least one skill taught this semester by writing your own lesson, creating a
sample, activity and answer key.
Assignment: The best way to learn something for life is to teach it to someone else. So, to ensure that you
remember at least one skill from this course, complete the following requirements:
First Step: Choose one skill from this semester: Pre-Writing, Thesis Statements, Basic Paragraphing, Paragraph
Clusters, Revision Techniques, Researching the Internet Effectively, Researching a Database Effectively, Three
Ways to Use a Source, Using a Verb and Fully Integrated Lead-In with a Quote, Providing Internal
Documentation in MLA or APA, Creating an Infographic, or How to Work with a Group.
Second Step: Create a lesson that actually teaches the skill. The lesson must be of your own making and not
something taken from the internet. I will consider that cheating. The assignment will receive a zero and you
will be reported to the college. The lesson must be in your own words.
Third Step: Create an example of what you are teaching. The example should demonstrate the skill for students.
The example must be of your own making and not something taken from the internet. I will consider that
cheating. The assignment will receive a zero and you will be reported to the college.
Fourth Step: Create an activity that allows students to practice the skill. The activity should take at least 10
minutes for in class or can be a homework assignment. The activity must be of your own making and not
something taken from the internet. I will consider that cheating. The assignment will receive a zero and you
will be reported to the college. If appropriate, an answer key would also be required.
Deadline: Please see the Course Schedule for the due date of the assignment. Please post the completed
assignment to the Assignment tab.
IMPORTANT: As with all assignments for this course, these instructions are not guidelines. In order to
receive a passing grade, all minimum requirements must be met.
