Research Question: Students should clearly identify their research question, by bolding it in the narrative or placing it at the beginning or end of the statement. A research question is a question that can be answered by original qualitative research, meaning field research or analysis of primary source documents.

Research Statement: Students must submit a 2-4 page essay that identifies the topic of research, primary research aims of this project, and the potential methods of original data collection.
The topic of research should be several sentences long and should clearly and succinctly state the purpose of the research project. Research statements usually start:
“This research examines…” The research aims should be a list of questions that the student seeks to explore in this project. Additionally, in discussing the topic of research and research aims, you should answer the following questions:
