Topic: Using Resources Effectively in English Language Learning and Content Instruction


You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).

A. Identify eight resources that are a combination of both print and nonprint which could be used with ELs (e.g., curricula, books, audiovisual materials, multimedia software, web resources). Make sure each resource citation is in APA format.

1. Identify each of the following components for each of the eight resources in part A:

a. age or grade level

b. learning modality (e.g., gesture, oral performance, artistic, linguistic, digital, electronic, graphic)

c. language proficiency level

2. Discuss how each of the eight resources in part A supports each of the following for students:

a. connection to students’ home culture or life experience outside the classroom

b. development of social or academic language or both

c. content-area learning

3. Describe how each of the eight resources in part A can be integrated into one communicative activity, for a total of eight activities.

B. Submit three original informational resources for ELs by doing the following for each resource:

1. Create an original EL informational resource.

2. Identify the target level of language proficiency for that resource.

3. Discuss how the resource meets the comprehensible input needs of the students at the target level of language proficiency identified in part B2.

Note: An example of informational resources may be a poster about classroom routines, school procedures and rules, school events, or study strategies.

C. Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

Note: You do not need to include the eight resources from part A again, if cited above.

D. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
