Topic: “Where The Crawdads Sing” (Review Essay)

Choose a novel length work that you have never read before. It’s okay if you have read other works by the author, but the book you choose must be new to you. Write a review essay about the work, and present your findings to the class. The review essay and presentation should include a brief bio of the author, an explanation of the text’s significance within the genre, and an overview of the text including major themes, style, etc.

Because there are so many writers and novelists, and we aren’t reading a single novel in the course, this assignment gives you the opportunity to explore a longer work and a genre or writer that interests you. In addition, by sharing what you read in a presentation, it offers your peers a glimpse into the world of fiction beyond the assigned readings in the textbook.
