The Eight Worldview Questions Column 2 Sire’s Answers Own Responses Similarities/Differences
What is prime reality – the really real?
According to Sire (2020), God is the ‘really real.’ God exists by Himself, and His attributes are unlimited. In addition, God is the foundation of all real things. Sire (2015) indicates that God’s essential character, Trinitarian nature, moral excellence, and wonderful acts determine the universe’s moral order. Also, His word, wisdom, and supreme law identify and rule every aspect of the created existence. Therefore, God is the prime reality.
What is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us?
Sire (2020) says that the external reality entails the cosmos created by God out of nothing to function in uniformity. The cosmos is orderly and without confusion but opened. It is not automatic. Tangari (2016) points out that the universe contra naturalism is not a restricted structure but rather an open one. The universe is open to imply that both celestial and peoples’ choices extensively create the present and the prospect.
What is a human being?
Sire (2020) states that human beings are created in God’s image. Therefore, they have personality, self-transcendence, morals, sociability, and inventiveness. Human beings are like God, where they are personal, just like He is. Genesis 1:26-27 states, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.” According to Sire (2015), the resurrection doctrine at the end of human history gives surety that every person is the same person.
What happens to a person at death?
At death, people are transformed, Sire (2020) states, further noting that for every individual, death is either a way to a glorified existence with God and His people or a path to everlasting parting from the one item that will eventually complete human desires. The latter is the essence of hell. While hell is for people that rejected salvation, heaven is for those that accepted the salvation offer. Revelation 4-5 and 21 give a glimpse of heaven.
Why is it possible to know anything at all?
God’s character is the foundation of human knowledge. Hence, human beings can know anything at all because God has given them that capability, and He actively communicates with them (Sire, 2020). According to Tangari (2016), Sire states that the epistemology of humankind is grounded in God the creator. This is why human beings know anything regarding reality as it really is.
How do we know what is right and wrong?
Human beings know right and wrong deeds because morality is transcendent and is rooted in God’s character as good, holy, and loving. God is the source of both the moral and physical worlds. The scriptures reveal His goodness which is expressed in the laws and moral principles. There is a moral universe and absolute standard (God) for measuring all moral judgments (Sire, 2020). Sire (2015) notes that God is holy and wisely governs the world for its moral ends.
